The United Nations Palace in Geneva witnessed the holding of the Global Minorities Forum on November 28, 2025, with a wide participation of over 950 personalities representing international, regional, and national organizations, as well as experts, academics, and representatives of various countries. The event was one of the largest international gatherings concerned with religious minorities and contributed to projecting a positive image of Iraq and the progress made in the file of rights and freedoms. During the main session, Dr. Haidar Asfūr, head of the Zoroastrian representation in Iraq, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government in supporting diversity and promoting coexistence, praising the supportive positions of Mr. Masoud Barzani for freedoms and ensuring the dignity of all components. He explained in his speech that the Zoroastrian component still faces challenges related to the absence of government representation and institutional support, lack of places of worship, and the absence of official recognition, which leads to a misunderstanding of the nature of their religion. Asfūr called for taking practical steps to address these issues and ensure equality among all components, stressing the importance of Iraq's commitment to international human rights agreements and continuing to work to consolidate the values of diversity and fairness. The session concluded by emphasizing the role of the forum as a platform to convey the voice of minorities and enhance international cooperation to support their rights.
