Zoroastrian Representation - Main Office Participates in Discussion Sessions to Promote Religious Minority Rights in Iraq

The Zoroastrian Representation - Baghdad participated in UN discussion sessions to promote the protection of religious minority rights in Iraq, with an emphasis on the importance of their participation in national decision-making.

On December 18, 2022, the Zoroastrian Representation - Baghdad participated in a series of five discussion sessions organized by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) through the Human Rights Office. These sessions aimed to enhance the protection of human rights for religious minorities in Iraq, develop existing mechanisms, and propose additional measures to ensure the protection of minorities and promote social cohesion and peaceful cooperation.

The sessions witnessed active participation from minority representatives, where the importance of their presence and participation in national decision-making processes was emphasized. The opportunity was also available to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the UN Declaration on Minority Rights, which revived the spirit of commitment to protecting their rights and implementing the recommendations of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination.

This participation comes within the framework of the ongoing efforts of the Zoroastrian Representation to promote peaceful coexistence, consolidate the values of tolerance, and ensure the representation of minorities in national and international forums.
