Baghdad / Moscow – September 14, 2026
The head of the Zoroastrian Faith Representation in Iraq, Dr. Haider Asfour, participated in the expanded online meeting of the Presidency of the International Social Chamber, which was attended by representatives from 79 countries and 8 religious denominations under the chairmanship of Mr. Alexander Olshevsky, to discuss mechanisms for strengthening peace and addressing the humanitarian and economic challenges arising from hotspots of tension and international conflicts.
Dr. Haider Asfour emphasized in his speech during the conference the world's urgent need for a "voice of reason, wisdom, and human values to confront violence and domination," confirming that the current repercussions require a shift from traditional frameworks to proactive practical steps.
Key proposals and initiatives presented:
Sustainable dialogue platforms: moving from periodic meetings to building permanent dialogue platforms that bring together civil society institutions, spiritual leaders, and decision‑makers.
Establishment of a Peace Preservation Committee: creating a committee under the Chamber that gathers clergy and humanitarian figures to leverage their spiritual weight in overcoming the blockage of traditional diplomacy, and to defend holy sites and human dignity.
Activation of child diplomacy: endorsing the international "Children's Diplomacy" program to protect children from the effects of war and destruction, and to instill values of tolerance in future generations.
Dr. Asfour also reviewed the efforts of the representation and civil‑society institutions in Iraq to support youth and young people, citing meetings with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and cultural institutions, including the "Restoring the Dignity of the Book" initiative with the Idraak Center, and the initiative to invest in and rehabilitate the Children's Theater to shape virtuous thought, in line with Zoroastrian principles calling for "good thought, good speech, good action."
The meeting also discussed preparations for the events marking the tenth anniversary of the founding of the International Public Dialogue Chamber, and ways to activate dialogue groups to reduce conflicts in Russia, Ukraine, Iran, and other affected regions worldwide.
